You’re at a busy bar. You order your personalized cocktail through a smart phone app; a drink dispenser measures out the beverage according to your instructions and a Kuka robotic arm give it a shake (or stir), while another garnishes it with a slice of lemon; the made-to-order concoction is delivered to your waiting hand via a slick little ten-lane conveyor belt.

So if you really think about it, today’s comic brings up several interesting issues regarding robots and war.  One that comes to mind that is certainly not anywhere near a reality, is what if robots are self-aware, does that change the morality of them fighting (I’m thinking Asimov).  If robots are used as soldiers, would they ever fight human soldiers?  If robot soldiers are fighting against other robot soldiers, then is anything really accomplished?  I guess you would be costing each other money, and that’s definitely something, but you’d think it’d be easier to just gamble at that point.  In some ways, I’m reminded of the Star Trek episode where the two countries determined casualties randomly, without ever fighting, and if you “lost” the lottery, you went to be killed.  Deep stuff!

Nate the Robot 1 - I'm on Robohub!

Hey everyone, I meant to get this strip drawn earlier, but I’m happy to start having Robohub as a second source to read my Nate the Robot comic strip! I hope it can add a bit of humor to your day and that you enjoy it. Nate the Robot is a comic about an ordinary robot trying to make it in a human world. Nate’s life seems to be plagued by misfortune and everyone dumping on him.

Tonight or tomorrow I will be uploading my first “theme focused” comic dealing with robots and war. If you enjoy reading Nate the Robot, remember to check out the regular comic on natetherobot.com. Check out my profile on here to find my facebook and twitter links if you enjoy my snarky humor.
