The International Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems (IJARS) is the first Open Access robotics journal in the Science, Technology and Medicine field. Currently in its 11th Volume, the journal is also the only openly accessible robotics publication to be indexed by ISI Thomson Reuters. With 13 topics each managed by a topic-related Editorial Board and a Topic Editor-in-Chief, IJARS integrates all aspects of robotics research in a single publication. In celebration of IJARS’s 10th year anniversary, the editorial team has launched a Video Series section featuring robotics-related videos as an addition to the journal’s current portfolio. This section will regularly feature video interviews and lectures showcasing the latest research and application novelties within the field of robotics, as well as personal overviews on the state of robotics by some of the currently most active robotics professional worldwide.

In this video lecture Carme Torras, Research Professor at the Spanish Scientific Research Council (CSIC) looks at the process of working on assistive robots employed as helpers to disabled or elderly people, shopping helpers, cleaning aids, even co-workers in workshops and factories. Her research in the Perception and Manipulation group focuses on enhancing the perception, learning, and planning capabilities of robots in human environments.

The IJARS team sat down at ICRA with two influential academics in robotics: Professor Howie Choset (Carnegie Mellon University) and Professor Seth Hutchinson (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) to discuss some of the latest developments in robotics, what students of robotics should be focusing on, and what research they most hope to be remembered for.

RoDyMan_pizza_robot_siciliano_PRISMAIn this video lecture, Bruno Siciliano from PRISMA Lab at the University of Naples, Italy, takes us through a new project in robotic dynamic manipulation, called RoDyMan. Centered on the task of making a pizza, the project aims to solve key problems related to robot gripping: localisation of the object while it is moving, motion and manipulation of the object, and control of the overall robotic system.
