Patrick Goebel is the author of the first book on ROS called ROS By Example: A Do-It-Yourself Guide to the Robot Operating System. He recently completed a second volume in the series called ROS By Example Volume 2: Packages and Programs for Advanced Robot Behaviors. Patrick works as a web developer by day and a robotics enthusiast by night. He has built his own ROS-powered robot called Pi Robot and has maintained a robotics blog since 2006 at /www.pirobot.org (with a new Wordpress version at http://www.pirobot.org/wordpress.) Patrick is an active member of the Home Brew Robotics Club as well as the Silicon Valley ROS Users Group. He earned a B.Sc. in Physics and a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology at the University of Toronto and wrote his dissertation on the use of artificial neural networks to solve the inverse kinematics of multi-jointed limbs.
