Umar Farooq
I am Umar and I’ve always been drawn to the space where electronics meets control — and it’s a fascination that’s shaped my entire career. I’m currently a Control Engineer at the University of Cambridge, working at the intersection of hardware and intelligence to solve problems that don’t have easy answers. I hold a BEng in Electronics Engineering and an MSc in Instrumentation and Control Engineering, and over the years I’ve built expertise across instrumentation and control, embedded systems, industrial automation, and robotics.
My recent work has pushed me into genuinely exciting territory — researching how robots interact with multiple people at once, not just one, and what it takes for a machine to feel less like a tool and more like a presence in the room.
