Adafruit’s innovative DIY open-source electronic hardware kits make founder Limor Fried our Entrepreneur of 2012.

 

Given merely a quick glance at a photo of Limor working away under a desk light, without a closeup of what she’s working with, you might think it was sewing, and maybe it is in a very broad sense, but the pieces she’s linking together are circuit boards, chips, and other electronic components; the thread is copper wire and solder; and the designs are driven by the behavior of the finished product far more than by its visual appeal.
