Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Richard completed his bachelor's degrees (Sci/Eng) at Swinburne University of Technology before moving to Brisbane to undertake a PhD on visual guidance for autonomous aircraft. After receiving his doctorate from the University of Queensland in 2012, Richard moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts where he is currently a postdoctoral research fellow on the RoboBees project at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Richard loves designing novel guidance algorithms for small flying robots and is particularly interested in applying principles of biological vision-based navigation to robotics. Outside university life, Richard enjoys hiking and skiing, and holds several national beach sprinting titles.
