WeRobot 2015 Panel 4: Regulating healthcare robots, with Drew Simshaw, Nicolas Terry, Kris Hauser and M.L. Cumming

nursing_home_eldercare_senior_hands_caneBasic, pressing issues need to be addressed very soon to ensure that robots are developed that promote confidence among providers, patients, consumers, and investors. In this We Robot 2015 panel, titled Regulating Healthcare Robots, the focus is on patient and user safety, security, and privacy – specifically the effect of medical device regulation and data protection laws on robots in healthcare.

Maximizing the potential of robots in healthcare is only possible through responsible design, deployment, and use. Potential issues include: harm to patients and consumers, trust factors for key stakeholders and overly restrictive reactionary regulation that could stifle long-term innovation.
