Update The submission deadline has been extended to May 4. Submit your AI and robotics videos for a chance to be featured on Robohub and win a Shakey Award at the AAAI Video Competition.

More than five years ago, as a PhD student in robotics, I had the opportunity to participate in the AAAI Artificial Intelligence Video Competition. This year, I’ll be co-chairing the competition with Mauro Birattari, a past winner and seasoned organizer of the competition. We’re hoping you’ll show us your AI and perhaps go home with a Shakey award – the Oscar trophy of AI.

The rules are simple: Compose a short video about an exciting AI project, and narrate it so that it is accessible to a broad online audience. We strongly encourage student participation.

For inspiration, here is a teaser compiled from many of the winning videos over the past seven years.

The AI Video Competition will be held in conjunction with the AAAI-14 conference in Québec City, Québec, Canada, July 27-31, 2014.

For me, making a video about bio-inspired flying robots was an excellent way to have a general overview of the research done in my PhD lab, improve my communication skills, and reach out to the public. Most importantly, I was able to attend a week-long, world class conference in AI that inspired much of my current work. The only downside was this hilarious picture, which somehow comes out first when you google my name. I promise we’ll take good pictures this year.

Finally, to help spread the word about your AI, we’ll be posting your best videos on youtube, twitter, g+, facebook and this blog. Let us know if you have any questions in the comments section below, or by email to info@aaaivideos.org.
