Another robot company acquired: Vecna acquires VGo

Vecnas-new-product-lineup_800_284_80Vecna, a growing robotic mobility provider for hospitals and warehouses, acquired VGo, a provider of mobile telepresence devices, for an undisclosed amount.

VGo Communications has amassed $10.3 million in four funding rounds, the last in 2013. VGo received much media attention for the use of their VGo mobility devices for remote presence schooling. They also got attention for an intellectual property infringement suit by InTouch Health which they won in late 2012.

Vecna Technologies, a Cambridge-based builder of healthcare solutions including tugs, software and a clever 24/7 maintenance network system, with this acquisition, can expand their healthcare client services to include offering remote presence care using VGo’s technology.

Similar to the strategic acquisition of Segway by Chinese Ninebot – a situation where Segway was suing Ninebot for IP infringement – and where Segway’s IP passed on to Ninebot, VGo’s IP, which has already undergone thorough court vetting, passes on to Vecna in the VGo acquisition.

Consolidation of VGo into Vecna is under way and VGo’s staff is moving into Vecna’s Cambridge facility.
