At the Phoenix Open PGA Golf Tournament held February 4-7 in Scottsdale Arizona, Golf Laboratories, an independent golf testing facility for clubs, shafts and ball testing based in San Diego, brought a robot to the tee-off spot and promptly hit a hole-in-one.
In the video below, Golf Laboratories worked with Rory McIlroy, a European golf champion, and comedian Geoff Norcott, to make the commercial “Rory Vs. The Robot.”
The company sells robotic hitting machines with speeds from .1 mph for putters to 120 mph for drivers.
The commercial enabled the robot to highlight its accuracy that makes it the industry standard for testing golf equipment. All of the shots shown were shots that the robot hits regularly during testing.
While the real robot may not have the wit, or voice, of comedian Geoff Norcott, it does have the ability to reproduce shots similar to the top players in golf.
