Robots for entertainment – Part II

Entertainment users of robots include movie studios (e.g., “Gravity”), entertainers (e.g., Blue Man Group), rides (Disney Epcot Center), resorts (Wynn) and bartenders (Bicardi and Coca Cola).

KUKA has provided a colorful and informative infographic (below) to showcase their use of robots and robot partners in the entertainment business. (It also shows healthcare and other uses of KUKA robots.)

The entertainment aspect is particularly interesting because:

  • It’s a fun use of new technologies
  • It lets creative minds find new uses for robots, e.g., architecture, design and construction
  • As more companies enter the industry and find niche markets for their wares, the public and media will broadcast their achievements worldwide and stimulate even more uses for robots in an ever-broadening range of our everyday lives.

KUKA isn’t the only player in the entertainment space; there are many small robot companies involved. One example is KMel Robotics and their synchronized flying robots, which have produced amazing shows for the Cannes Film Festival, advertisements for Lexus (here’s a link to that ad) and flying light effects for various concerts and art shows.
